Trailer Brake Controller for 2015 Tundra

A Trailer Brake Controller (TBC) and harness for the 2015 Toyota Tundra will be available through a Toyota dealer Parts Department. It is recommended that a TBC is equipped if towing a trailer weighing a couple tousand pounds or more in order to help lessen the chance of wheel lock-up when braking.

Because of changes made to the Tundra for 2015 aftermarket TBCs from a previous generation Tundra will not simply plug into the 2015 Tundra because of a plug change. The plug change also causes difficulties when trying to install any aftermarket TBC.

For the 2007-2014 Toyota Tundra a pre-wired pigtail harness was included in the glove box. For 2015 the pigtail connector was moved to the right side of the steering wheel (where the TBC was planned for installation).

Non-Factory-Quality Options:
Three basic options for hooking up a TBC on the 2015 Tundra (please note these three options are not ideal or factory-quality solutions):

  1. An aftermarket TBC can be wired on 2015 Tundra, which requires splicing into the OEM wiring and removing the factory connector. This requires wire identification via tracing or referencing information from Toyota’s Electronic Wiring Diagram (EWD), which is only available to the public for an added cost
Problem: Issues may occur if the TBC is hooked up incorrectly. Also, a diode may need to be added in the harness to eliminate the possibility of feedback that may trigger a vehicle-warning lamp
  2. Select aftermarket TBC units provide a wiring harness with a universal pigtail connector.
Problem: Connector will not hook up to the 2015 Tundra harness (wiring will still require installation from Option #1 above)
  3. Select aftermarket TBC units are also available allowing for wireless hookup using a radio frequency(RF) wireless signal
Problem: Portable, but issues may occur if the TBC is hooked up incorrectly.
